Freight (insured) to Rotterdam won’t be more then 1,800€ for me.
So that together is 18,800€
Then you need to add 10% European tax (Cost of product, shipping and insurance is always taxed as a whole).
~ 1,880€
Boils down to be ~ 20,680€
Then for the V.A.T. 19% (Is it still 19% in NL?)
~ 3,929.20€
That will mean a total taxation price of 24,609.20€
On top of that you can count fixed harbour costs which can differ depending on how long the ship was docked and if you were on time to pick up the car, so on so on.
Paperwork that needs to be done when getting the car, it all depends on who you ship with.
Custom Clearance is 75€
Delivery Charge is 20€
Phone, Postage and Paperwork 5 - 10€
I’ve had it a few times that cost ran up due to me refusing delivery on a car that was damaged and it ended up costing me 1000€ to clear which I then got a refund for.
Anyway lets just say additional cost will be between ~ 100€ and ~ 500€ and that’s if your unlucky.
That brings us to about ~ 25,000€
Now for the biggest pain in the ass, the mother of all unfair taxes the BPM!
For this civic type R I just used the base price civic type R here in NL (34,995.00€) to calculate the BPM.
BPM ~ 8,517.00€
Total of ~ 33,517€
It will still cost some more to get the car road legal over here.
The test its self takes about one day and from what I have heard is about 1,000€
Rear fog light ~ 25€
As an option you can choose to change the front lights to the civic hybrid lights this will loose you the HID (I think) but will be a clean OEM replacement.
Cost I have no idea but upwards of 1,500€ I would think.
The other option is to adjust the bulbs yourself; this will not always work and is a major pain in the ass but the cost is next to nothing.
Et voilà ! You have just imported yourself a brand new FD2 at the price of about ~ 35,000€ maybe a bit more if you go for OEM front lights.
However, there might be a glitch because I have never imported a brand new car before so I don’t know if there is a mandatory registration process that needs to be done.
This might include getting the car registered in Japan before being able to export it and that will add additional costs to the whole mission.
Anyway I doubt it would be more then 2,000€
So yeah if I had the choice and the money for this kind of operation I would go for the FD2 as opposed to the egg-ball crock of sheet type R they sell here.
(No offence to the owners of these euro type R’s!)
So anyway I hope this clarifies some stuff for you guys and maybe someone will decide to import one! Because its really not as expensive as one might think.
It just takes guts and persistence and it can be accomplished with some patience.
I personally think the club should import three hehehe a white, a blue and a grey one!
Litchfield Imports heeft een goed verhaal over de eerste FD2 die ze geimporteerd hebben, die gaf 237 BHP op de rollenbank, meer dan Honda zelf aangeeft voor de auto.
I come to about 38000€ for the one from the UK when I calculate the BPM and additional costs getting it on the road!
The cheapest route is of course importing one yourself from an auction, at the moment I think prices from 32000€ on the road are possible if your smart about it.
(Then it wouldn’t be a new car but hey if its a 5.0/A grade low mileage car who cares?)
Or just wait two years and only pay about 23000€ for a 5.0/A grade car on the road here!
The FD2 is going to overflow the UK market just like the DC5 did, the best idea is just to wait a bit for the prices to go down.
