My first B-series car - need feedback on future plans

Post by n0stra »

Although this is not a Type-R i thought i could ask all you B16 and B18 owners in here if you could not help me anyways.

So i just got a EG6 and im wondering on what to do with it. I own a EP3 type-R also so i want this car to perform a bit better than it does originally.

I havent done anything at all with it at the moment and my experience from beforehand has been strictly K-series engines.

On that car ive removed some restrictions in intake and exhaust plus bettered the engine mounts plus installed a kpro EMS and gotten it professionally tuned. The result was great.

So i was wondering what you would recomend for me to do in the future. Is it possible to replace the block with a B18 and likewise with the intake header for instance? Im asking this since alot of people change the K20 block with a K24 and likewise with the intake header to get higher gains.

Im also planning on changing the cams, valvesprings etc. Would it work with a GSR/Type-R enginehead/top or whatever its called in english? (im norwegian so youll have to exuse my grammar from time to time). Im also discussing a deal with Akmee on their prototype B16 setup, im also concidering JUN and Spoon if thats a better way to go.

Spoon engine torque dampener is also on my list with spoon head gasket, spoon racing plugs, spoon high tension leads, spoon air intake filter etc. Im also concidering the J's Racing intake thingy that you install in the frontbumper to route air up the intake box. Is there any bushings i should buy or engine mounts/inserts? The car has new OEM bushings and mounts all over changed less than 1 year ago and the car has mainly been in a garage in that time. Timing belt and water pump has been replaced 4000 km ago. Im also replacing the alternator with a brand new one. Changing the oil to Castrol EDGE Formula 0-40w. Any suggestions on what oil to get for the transmission?

The only aftermarket parts on the engine atm are a Tanabe N1 catback system and Supersprint race catalysator. This was installed by the former owner. I myself prefere the Fujitsubo, Toda and Mugen exhausts.

Besides from this i need some better coilovers or springs (the former owner has installed some 40mm cheapo springs at the moments wich is to low for my liking. I guess ill need a camberkit also. The Sparco shortshifter has to go, any suggestions there? Also i need a new, heavy gearknob. New stearingwheel is also on the list. Either a type-R wheel used or a suede Momo racing wheel.

Thanks :)

Make the EG6 fast but don't over do it.

It'll cost you a real lot to make it preform anything near the EP3. IMO just isn't worth it because you have a tuned EP3.
Do a B16 VTi swap and make her completely JDM.

Hmm since the EG is allready a VTi i dont know if that would make a difference ;)

And a K20 in the car would cost me way to much money and also it wouldnt be legal.

Oh sorry didn't read that :o ops:

ee8 himself has an EG with a K20 swap.

The other option would be the B18c engine, however i don't have any experience what so ever about swapping. You'll need to ask a few others at this forum..

However I do think you shouldn't put THAT much money into the little beast. Clean it up, i say :D

Than see it as a challenge and go for the B18 swap..

Or you could go B20/B16. Requires a bit more time but since you say time is on your side...
A bit more exclusive these days

since you allready have a b16, biggest bang for the buck will be a turbocharger. boost the shit out of the b16 and you will have a lot of fun......
