Well, the level of english you find even on UK & US forums these days is far worse than what we've seen on our forum so far.
And let's not even go into the whole SMS-speak, that doesn't help either!

So I figured I might as well study something that Im interested in. Besides Holland is the best place in the world besides Japan that you can learn Japanese in. Not a lot of people know that Uni Leiden has one of the best programmes in the word.
Totally agree
Interesting to learn is how old the Japanse study is in the Netherlands.
In Japan you will find the possiblity to study Dutch and Dutch history.
Hmm, might be tempted to start a Japanse study myselve 8)

The Netherlands was one of the first countries in the world who were allowed to trade with (or entering on a friendly basis) Japan, because Japan was very isolated in those days (the 17th century or so).

Very isolated indeed, Ard
1641 tot 1853 only the Dutch got permission to enter the Japanse waters.
But could only stay on the (man made) Island of Deshima in the bay of Nagasaki (1800)

Do it mate you can still apply to Leiden if you like. Deadline is August 1st!
Indeed, the Dutch have really good bonds with Japan.
@HondArd
Also after WWII the Dutch didnt really hold a grudge too long against the Japanese and soon after started working with them again.
There are plenty of institutions over there that work with Dutch exchange students and Japanese that want to go to The Netherlands.

ops:
Your spoken dutch is probably fluent because of your german background.
German and Dutch is very similar (i know my fellow dutchies we disagree, im talkin outsiders here ok
)'
That's why all the dumb americans always think that we're german when they hear us speak.
Some idiots even think germany and the netherlands are the same country *sigh*
